ABOUT

[Newspaper article from 1949.]

The first Rockingham County Fair was held at the Linville Ball Park, August 31 – September 3, 1949. Many smaller fairs were held before 1949 at Ed’s Park at Rawley Springs, in Harrisonburg, on the Whitesel-Sit lot, and at the present location of Memorial Stadium. From 1950 to 1951, the fair lasted four days; from 1952 to 1963, it lasted five days; and since 1964, it has run for six days.

The fair has been held at the present site on US Rt. 11 since 1980. The fairgrounds currently account for 111 acres of land, including a 21,000-square-foot exhibit hall.

It also features a barn complex with more than 80,000 square feet of roofed space. This accommodates hundreds of hogs, sheep, goats, beef cattle, and dairy cattle. Additionally, the facility features a farm museum, a building dedicated to horticulture, flowers, and farm crop displays. There’s also a building for poultry/rabbit exhibits. Plus, numerous food concessions are operated by local civic organizations.

There is also a 4,000-seat grandstand, which seats an additional 2,500 at ground level. There is parking on the grounds for over 7,000 vehicles, with parking capacity expanding in 2014.

New & Improved 2016 Economy Line

This month, we at Valley Structures are excited to announce some new and exciting changes to our Economy line of storage sheds. This line has been popular since its introduction last year. These barns will offer you the same amount of storage space at a reduced cost. They are available in the Barn and Cottage styles. You can add, change, or move options as needed, based on your specific needs or backyard requirements. For instance, if you need a loft for additional storage or reinforced flooring, we can add these options to suit your needs better. On the taller-sided buildings, you have the option of placing your doors on the side of the structure.

Here are just a few of the specs:

  • LP Smartside Silver Tech siding, painted to your choice of color, 5/8 plywood flooring, and one window standard.
  • They will be available in widths of eight, ten, and twelve feet, and up to twenty feet in length.

As with all of our other sheds, we manufacture each one at our plant located in Dayton, VA, here in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Every Economy Shed is constructed with the same attention to detail as our standard sheds. We have a large inventory at our sales office in Penn Laird, VA, which is always open to the public.

Please stop by or give us a call at your convenience to schedule your shed delivery.

Fair time is upon us once again (it’s hard to believe how fast time flies)! We will have our buildings on location, so be sure to stop by and see us! We will have someone there who can help you determine what would work best for your farm or backyard storage.

Carports for Your Home or Business

In addition to our storage sheds, we offer the Carolina Carport. Interestingly, many people may not be aware of this option. Over the past five years, we have been a dealer and have consistently been pleased with the quality and service they provide. Furthermore, Carolina Carports offers an excellent way to protect vehicles or equipment from sun damage and winter weather. You can also fully customize your order, choosing either a basic carport or a fully enclosed garage unit with roll-up doors. In addition, installation on a level lot is included in the price.

Many folks in the Shenandoah Valley are adding chicken coops to their properties to have access to fresh, natural eggs. These days, when it comes to our food, more and more people are moving towards sustainable solutions. Growing their own gardens and raising their own animals have become popular trends. We like to know where our food is coming from and how it is handled during the manufacturing process.

Nutritional Benefits
There are a wide variety of nutritional benefits from raising your own animals on your property in structures like chicken coops. You get organic eggs in your own backyard that taste much better than eggs from the store. Chickens are great for your garden, especially during the off-season (who doesn’t love help in the garden?). They eat the grubs and bugs in the dirt that aren’t great for your plants, and fertilize the soil. They are a low maintenance animal so you won’t spend a lot of time taking care of them.

The Right Chicken Coop For You
Here at Valley Structures, we offer chicken coops to give you a helping hand with your own flock of poultry. The chicken coop pictured here is a 6×8 and has nesting boxes and perches. You’ll have easy access just by lifting the outside access door, a small chicken door and ramp, two windows, a single door, and a drop vent in the back. These units provide a safe shelter for the chickens to lay their eggs and stay protected from any outside predators. Additionally, you’ll now have an easy way to gather the eggs daily!

Let us know how we can best serve you and help you and your family enjoy more fresh, natural food options! Contact us today about our chicken coop options and how we can help you select yours.

NEW! Dog Kennels

Our new dog kennels offer safe, comfortable, and secure outdoor housing for your pets, with customizable options to suit your yard and your dog’s specific needs.

Another new addition to our lineup this Spring is our Dog Kennel. Over the years, we have had many requests for these units. We build these with the same quality and attention to detail as all our other storage structures. As always, you are free to choose the color and size that complements your home and lawn.  The standard options for each kennel will depend on size, but options offered include single doors, dog doors, dog boxes, chain-link fences and composite floors.

A kennel allows you to keep your pet contained without having it on a chain while at the same time protecting it from the dangers of the neighborhood. It will also keep the dog from running into a busy road or encountering other potentially dangerous animals. It allows the dog to spend time outdoors while providing a source of shade and shelter when necessary. If constructed to suit the dog’s needs, it keeps the dog safely secured on the property while providing an area for exercise.

Our kennels are already proving to be a customer favorite. Stop by and take a look to see how we can suit your needs!
